Held in conjunction with the 1997 Indonesia-Japan Friendship Festival, this exhibition featured, for the first time in Japan, Indonesia's own strain of realist painting that emerged from the 1970s onward. Understanding new Indonesian realist painting as a "mutant" born as the result of social transformations in this rapidly modernizing country, the exhibition showed 44 oil paintings by 11 artists. 【Basic information】 Period: 1997.8.23 - 1997.9.7 Venue: The Japan Foundation Forum Organized by: Department of Education and Culture, Republic of Indonesia, Tha Japan Foundtion Asia Center Coordinated by: Nanjo and Associates
