Nakanoshima Mitsui Building Artwork Project

N&A was commissioned to oversee the selection of artworks to match a stylish office building with sharp lines and plenty of glass windows. The project was built around the concept of jewels, likening the entrance to the inside of a jewelry box with a precious sapphire and ruby inside.
We selected neo-conceptual American artist Jenny Holzer, who created a work featuring a sapphire blue LED display, her first permanent installation for a commercial space in Japan. Japanese artist Hiroshi Yoshimizu was selected to produce a large glass sculpture to represent a ruby. The installation was widely praised for its stunning interplay between blue and red in harmony with the design of the building.
