Yokohama Kanazawa High-Tech Center, Plaza Design Project
Categories :
Public & Corporate Art Consulting
When Kanazawa Ward in the City of Yokohama redeveloped reclaimed land along its shoreline, the city authorities used the opportunity to establish a biotech R&D facility called Kanazawa Bio Park. Part of this project was the Yokohama Kanazawa High-Tech Center, a research and training facility with public space that was turned into an art-filled plaza. Bronze artworks were installed in a checkered pond area, while several cube-shaped pieces that also function as benches were set up above ground. This collaboration was made possible by the architects demonstrating a deep understanding of the artists' aims, and resulted in a highly distinctive space.
